Old Town

The Old Town is located in the heart of Warsaw. It is a place you simply cannot leave out while being in Warsaw. It is by far one of the most favorite meeting places in town, where Varsovians often go for specials occasions, dinners, dates, weddings or romantic walks. You can find anything you need in the Old Town, but be careful! You can lose your heart and soul there.

First of all there come the picturesque streets with historical buildings. Every single street and every single building seems to have some secret hidden. You can meet various artists on the Old Town's Market and e.g. have your caricature painted. There are also concerts, festivals (e.g. theater festivals) and other events organized in the Old Town.

Numerous restaurants and pubs offer a lot of space for relaxation and enjoying the meal or a drink. Attention! The prices in the restaurants in the Old Town's Market or the Castle Square are much higher than anywhere else. You can find lower prices closer to Barbican (battlements) or along the streets leading to the New Town only a few minutes walk away.

If you are interested in history, I recommend visiting the Royal Castle, which next to the permanent exhibition offers a wide range of temporary ones. You can also visit some museums or go along the historic monuments' trail (Jan Kilinski - the leader of the historical uprising - monument, or a Statue of The Little Insurgent etc.)

In the evening, the Old Town will welcome you with a large number of clubs and pubs. "Lezaki" pub ("Deck-chairs") located in the Piwna Street is without any doubt an original one. The tables in the lower room are arranged in a circle leaving the dance floor in the middle. But when the guests get tired, they are free to take one of the deck-chairs waiting in the corner of the room and sit down in them on the dance-floor. The climate gets really relaxed and it feels like a summer beach, while enjoying an excellent Polish beer in such a deck-chair.
One of the most famous restaurants in the Old Town is called "Kompania Piwna" (Beer Company). You can get there while walking along Barbican (battlements). The delicious beer, smiling waiters, excellent food and the climate inside attracts crowds every day. (better make the table reservation! Tel.: + 48 22 6356314).
It would take a three volume novel to write about all the restaurants, pubs and clubs in the Old Town. I can just promise that anyone coming to the Old Town will find a place that will fully suit them.

The photo with the Warsaw Mermaid in the Old Town's Market is absolutely obligatory.

Practical Information: The Old Town is the oldest district in Warsaw, which remained in the same spatial arrangement from the beginning of it existence (13th century). The Royal Castle was the residence of monarchs, and then the headquarters of the Polish government in the past.

Numerous buses run to the Old Town ( buses no. 190, 195 or 174, or trams no. 23 or 26).
