£azienki Królewskie (Royal £azienki Park)

You can read about the Palace on the Water, the Ujazdowski Castle, Chopin monument and other historical spots of this most famous and the largest park in Warsaw in any tourist publication about Warsaw. But only a few will tell you about the terrorist squirrels. If you go to £azienki Park in the end of summer and during autumn to see the Palm Hall, the Theatre on the Island or simply to relax, you should not forget about the nuts. Otherwise you can get listed on the "highly unwanted list" and never again enjoy the fondness of those little, red-hair creatures. The squirrels take advantage of any situation while making the provisions for the winter. They will take the nuts straight from your hand or even climb up your trouser-leg to look into your pocket. Apart from the squirrels there are ducks, peacocks and fat carps swimming in the royal pond that will be happy if fed. A walk in the Lazienki Park will calmly affect any tired and overworked soul.

Practical Information: The £azienki Park along with the beautiful Palace on the Water was built to serve the Polish monarchs as the summer residence. The Ujazdowski Castle was built by the Masovian Princes and the other buildings were raised on initiative of King Stanislaw August. Thanks to his hobby of collecting various precious things, there is a rich museum in the Palace nowadays.

To get to the Lazienki Park you have to take the buses no 116, 166, 180 or 195. The buses stop directly opposite to the main entrance to the park ("Lazienki Krolewskie" bus stop).
